Testimonials

5/5
“PWYP commissioned Hadeezah to develop the movement's first global Gender Policy in November 2021 and it was adopted by members in June 2022. Hadeezah was a pleasure to work with - responsive, organised, flexible and open while also sharing her own expertise and offering clear sighted recommendations. She consulted widely with PWYP members around the world through focus groups and an online survey and has developed an ambitious but workable policy with a high level of buy-in”.

“ONE contracted Hadeezah to develop a Global Gender Strategy. She mapped out ONE’s programme work, the external environment, and ran an inclusive consultation with our key stakeholders. Hadeezah was flexible and adaptable. She simultaneously listened to the organisation’s needs while challenging us to think bigger. It was a pleasure working with her – her thoughtfulness and rigour will make a lasting contribution to our work”.

“I’ve worked twice with Haruna & Usie Consulting Ltd when designing new humanitarian program proposals, working with Hadeezah to ensure our activities were responsive to gender and protection needs. Hadeezah showed mastery of the latest in gender and protection issues. During group design calls, I was impressed with how quickly she could understand new program contexts and propose new ideas to ensure a strong design, helping us to swiftly move forward. She has the skills to work with diverse, multinational teams, and her support in proposal writing and design has been crucial to the work we’ve done. I’ve only had positive, professional experiences with Haruna & Usie Consulting Ltd, and I’ll be sure to work with them for future protection safeguarding needs”.

“The International Rescue Committee (IRC) recently hired Hadeezah to conduct a gender analysis in Nigeria to inform IRC’s strategy action plan and program design in Protection, Health and Economic Recovery and Development. Hadeezah designed and implemented the gender analysis in collaboration with community members and project teams using a participatory inclusive approach. Her complex contextual understanding of gender norms in Nigeria offers nuanced insights on how to unpack and deconstruct harmful gender norms through IRC’s programs. Hadeezah did an excellent job in grounding the analysis in an intersectional feminist lens in relation to both the project needs at a micro level and the country program’s strategic objectives. She has excellent communication skills, a collaborative approach and is able to manage competing priorities effectively. I would gladly work with Hadeezah in the future and highly recommend her as a gender equality expert”.

Gender Equality AND Social Inclusion case studies:

The ONE Campaign (ONE) Global Gender Strategy

In 2021, ONE commissioned us to provide a range of technical support services culminating in the development of its Global Gender Strategy. ONE’s brief was for us to assist with crafting and finalizing its strategic approach to gender as well as co-create and co-manage a plan for ONE to help to shape ONE’s thinking on gender policy and content.

Systems review and assessment | Desk research | Team and stakeholder engagement | Strategic communications | Participatory workshop | Co-design process.

A Gender strategy that provides ONE with a roadmap for existing interventions, facilitates further adaptations to become more gender transformative, and strengthens their effectiveness to integrate these interventions into their campaigns for scale and sustainability. As part of the process of operationalizing the Strategy, we also developed an implementation plan to ensure gender considerations are integrated as their work evolves.

Publish What You Pay (PWYP)

Haruna & Usie Consulting Ltd. were contracted by PWYP in 2021 to develop a gender policy for the global PWYP movement. As its first-ever global strategy, PWYP wanted a road map for existing interventions, and future work.

A global gender strategy that articulates PWYP’s ambition to foster a culture of inclusivity, respect, and equality that embodies its commitment to embracing feminist values and principles in its work. To facilitate the operationalization of the Strategy, we developed an implementation plan to ensure feminist perspectives are integrated as their work evolves. The Global Gender Policy development by Haruna & Usie Consulting Ltd was adopted by PWYP members in June 2022

International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The IRC has chosen Gender Equality as a cross cutting Global Standard that IRC Nigeria aims to make progress in as part of its Strategy Action Plan. IRC Nigeria needed a baseline to inform existing and future projects and enable it to implement more gender- sensitive programs. In May 2021, IRC commissioned us to conduct a comprehensive gender analysis of its projects in northeast Nigeria.

Quantitative and qualitative research and analysis | Deep-dive workshops | Action planning | Evidence-based recommendations

A clear action plan that informed IRC’s new strategy and programme design.

TechnoServe Nigeria

Haruna & Usie Consulting Ltd. were contracted by TechnoServe in 2022 to understand the nexus between Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) and Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Nigeria, Senegal, and Ghana. TechnoServe is mindful of the interplay between GBV and WEE and sees an opportunity in building the growing body of knowledge that seeks to bring clarification to the connection between WEE and GBV, from a West African perspective.

Desk research | Quantitative and qualitative research and analysis | Deep-dive workshops | Evidence-based recommendations |

The project spanned from 2022- 2023.  It provided insights into WEE-GBV nexus in a way that informed TechnoServe as well as impact investors to make evidence-based decisions on interventions that hold potential for combining both impact and development gains for women and girls globally.

Options Consultancy Services- E4A-MamaYe

With the end of its Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation investment, as part of its comprehensive impact evaluation, the Evidence for Action (E4A) MamaYe wanted to understand if and how its gender equality and social inclusion programmatic changes have made any impact in the state-led accountability mechanisms (SLAMs) the project has supported in Lagos, Kano and Kaduna.  Haruna & Usie Consulting Ltd. was contracted to conduct an evaluation to understand 1) SLAM’s gender advocacy work as well as its internal structures including the embedding of GESI and 2) SLAM’s capacity to continue work beyond the project life cycle.

Desk research | Qualitative research and analysis | Evidence-based recommendations |

The project will span from January to April 2024, and will provide evidence into the SLAMs work in project states. The case study report will generate high-quality and actionable evidence on the SLAM’s gender equality advocacy and sustainability work in a way that informs Options and diverse audiences including civil society coalitions in low- and middle-income countries, development partners, and donors.
